There is a roaring humm building for Microsoft's digital media device, "Coming Zune." Engadget this week posts the much anticipated breaking news on price and date for Zune. Price point - $249. Available November 14, 2006.
Zune Will Go Toe-to-Toe with iPod
Is it the iPod killer though? Here's what it offers at launch:
- Zune includes a 30GB digital media player
- Zune has a built-in FM tuner
- Zune allows you to show off music, pictures and video as well as customize with personal pictures or themes of your own.
- Zune offers "Zune-to-Zune" sharing of full-length sample tracks of select songs, homemade recordings, playlists or pictures with friends between Zune devices.
- Zune allows you to listen to the full track of any song you receive up to three times over three days. If you like a song you hear and want to buy it, you can flag it right on your device and easily purchase it from the Zune Marketplace.
- Zune Marketplace offers a Zune Pass subscription to download as many songs as you want for a flat fee.
Can Zune Break Into the Ears of Loyal iPod Users?
I'm a pretty loyal gadget user -- once I invest in one, I typically don't want to start all over again learning and converting to another similar yet different device. Zune is the first gadget that actually peaks my interest, but I'm not certain it can ungrip me from my iPod. I'll be curious to see consumer reviews once its out there for the masses. Right now, there's a lot of scrutiny -- as with anything Microsoft. I'm giving it an open mind and looking forward to seeing it soon.
Hey Santa!
