Entrepreneurship (Or Lack Thereof) In Millennials
Steven Berglas, Ph.D. takes a look at the question, "Do members of this generation have the inner fight to make it on their own?" The answer is complex, but as this Forbes article, Entrepreneurship (Or Lack Thereof) In Millennials, says "The good news is that millennials (born in mid-1970s - 1990s) can cuddle up with Barney and add serious value, too, in the form of social entrepreneurship. There's a precedent for this line of thinking, to which any Horatio Alger fan can attest. The "rags-to-riches" catch-phrase notwithstanding, when you examine Alger's novellas, it's clear that the heroes like Ragged Dick and Tattered Tom were more concerned about social status and self-respect than about amassing great wealth. Now that's something millennials can buy into."
Counterpoint: Entrepreneurship from a Millennial's Perspective
As a counterpoint to Berglas' article, there is an excellent blog post by Emily Stoddard Malloy, a 20-something millennial herself, on the Three Principles that Define the Millennial Generation. Malloy identifies millennials' personal direction and their sense of achievement by purpose, passion and pace. Excellent!
